STI & Industry 4.0
This track encompasses the world-making capacities of emerging technologies and data infrastructures in the framework of the so-called ‘fourth industrial revolution’. New forms of relationships between digital objects have massively proliferated in major institutions of social life surrounding markets, politics, public administration, policing, the legal system, and citizens' everyday lives. Positive effects of such developments abound. However, concerns have been voiced about the social and economic disruptive potential of accelerating trends, in for example, artificial intelligence, machine learning, big data, nanotechnology, biometrics, advanced electronics, and other converging technologies in the near future. This line welcomes proposals that examine how such challenges and opportunities play out in STI policy and governance in emerging economies’ contexts.
